TEXAS DESERT TWILIGHT
Lindy Cook Severns 2010
24" x 36" pastel on museum grade Wallis
$6800
The volcanic mountains of the Chihuahuan desert glow with inner light on this wintry far west Texas evening.
"Drab and colorless at mid- day, this landscape near Study Butte comes alive at dusk. The Chisos Mountains of Big Bend shift through successive shades of fuschia, violet, purple as sunset rips the fire right out of the ancient beds of lava and volcanic tuff on the desert floor. This one of my favorite landscapes to paint. Watching sunset from Indian Head is like witnessing the world --or at least, Texas--being created."
(This large pastel painting by Lindy Cook Severns is, like all of her landscapes, a real place.)
This original painting is conservation framed under non-reflective museum glass.

SPARKING THE DESERT'S INNER FIRE 36" x 24" pastel Wallis Museum-grade Pastel Paper $6400 unframed Sunset brings a light show to Big Bend's Chisos Mountains, with their famous V-shaped Window. These regal purple mountains shift colors shamelessly. The Chisos backdrop less familiar, but no less magnificent red rock volcanic formations in the Chihuahuan Desert. "The prickly pear in the foreground seemed to stretch toward the last vestiges of sunlight as shadows curtained the desert around it. I painted from the perspective of those sun-hungry cactus pads." offered through MICHAEL DUTY FINE ART, Dallas, Texas MichaelDutyFineArt.com contact Michael michael@michaeldutyfineart.com or Lindy@LindyCSeverns.com FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING on this Lindy Severns painting |

FIRST RAIN ON BLUE MOUNTAIN 36" x 24" pastel Wallis Museum-grade Pastel Paper $6400 unframed A fiery sunset follows the first dramatic, rain-swollen thunderstorm to soak the Davis Mountains in almost a year. This hard-packed ground can scarcely drink the runoff fast enough; drought-crippled cholla are already unbending to lift their yellow-tipped arms in thanks.
